While the cast of Marvel's Phase Two sci-fi actioner Guardians of the Galaxy has been rounding out on the fast track as of late (Benicio del Toro, Doctor Who's Karen Gillan and Glenn Close are the latest additions), we still have little word on the crucial role of Rocket Raccoon. But we may have been provided with our first glimpse of the in-the-flesh, or rather in-the-fur, behind-the-scenes inspiration for the fan favorite ass kicking character.
Via his WhoSay? account, Guardians director James Gunn tweeted out this rather adorable picture of himself meeting who he describes as his new gaffer. His furry friend will more than likely will play a larger role in the film eventually. This little guy's actions may provide some performance capture elements to the inter-stellar gun toting raccoon we will eventually see brought to life on the big screen.
I've just hired a new gaffer for the shoot. Chewing on wires is good, right?say.ly/BIP5ZcM— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) June 6, 2013

Marvel's big foray into sci-fi has so far cast Chris Pratt as Peter Quill / Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, and David Bautista as Drax The Destroyer. Karen Gillan will play the lead female villain. Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro will also appear in yet to be confirmed roles.
The film is set for an August 1, 2014 release in 3D.
