Preview Clip & Images From The Series Finale of 'Green Lantern: The Animated Series'

Cartoon Network has released new images and a preview clip from Dark Matter, Saturday's morning's swan song episode of Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Along with Young Justice, the show will unfortunately not be returning for further adventures and will be replaced in the DC Nation line-up by the younger skewing Teen Titans Go! and Beware The Batman.

It's unfortunate that Green Lantern, in either animated form or live action, has failed to click with the masses. This second and ultimately final season not only brought us a solid dark arc involving the Anti-Monitor and the Manhunters, but saw Guy Gardner and Sinestro thrown into the mix as well. The show's longterm future seemed highly in doubt when it was abruptly pulled from Cartoon Network's schedule last fall, with no return date immediately announced.

The darker story lines explored by the show didn't exactly make it ideal fare for the Saturday morning time slot it was given, as the older demo it would ideally target isn't tuning in live at that time. In addition to Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars has also finished it run on the network, with Lucasfilm's recent announcement that it will be 'winding down' production on that series.

Dark Matter synopsis, per Cartoon Network:
In the season finale episode, the Aya Monitor returns to the dawn of time to stop all emotion and all life from ever existing. Now, Hal must find a way to stop her - while Razer realizes the only way to save the universe may mean killing the woman he loves.

'Justice League' Now On Track With Christopher Nolan In Charge? Will We See Christian Bale Team Up With Henry Cavill?

In a move that makes absolutely perfect sense so it should be of no surprise IF proven true, Warner Bros. has reportedly put into motion a bulletproof plan for its troubled big screen version of Justice League that will team the collective forces behind The Dark Knight trilogy and the upcoming Man of Steel.

After a lengthy investigation, El Mayimbe over at Latino Review broke the big news last night, which was also backed up by Batman-On-Film, that Warners has finally and wisely handed the reigns of its big screen DC Universe over to Dark Knight mastermind Christopher Nolan. Nolan not only steered his Batman trilogy to critical acclaim and billions at the box office, he also oversaw production of the upcoming reboot of Superman, Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill and directed by Zack Snyder.

If you allow yourself to believe the positive online buzz from a recent pre-screening, WB is apparently over the roof at what they have on their hands with Man of Steel. With their multiple stalled attempts over the years at bringing Justice League to the big screen, and with both Batman star Christian Bale and Chris Nolan having retired from that franchise after The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros. is left with only Man of Steel (and possibly 2011's failed Green Lantern) as anchor points for DC's answer to Marvel's The Avengers. Recent reports also point to the studio's disappointment and subsequent scrapping of the latest Justice League script penned by Gangster Squad's Will Beall.

According to Latino Review, Bale is now being courted to don the cape and cowl again, despite the closure seen in The Dark Knight Rises and his reluctance to participate in the proposed team-up film unless Nolan can convince him otherwise. WB's previous plan was to introduce the next big screen Caped Crusader in 2015's Justice League and then use that as a springboard to the next series of Batman films. With Nolan on board, its probably the only chance of seeing Bale return to the role.

Man of Steel director Zack Synder is reportedly also to be on board to produce Justice League and most probably first in line to direct (if Nolan doesn't want to helm it). Unconfirmed to return to this mix is screenwriter David Goyer, who is an integral part of the team as a key writer of the Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel.

Few have doubted Henry Cavill's Superman as the only sure bet anchor for Justice League from the get go. A major unknown factor that remains regarding Man of Steel is to what extent would it be utilized in setting up the larger big screen DC Universe as Marvel has done by crossing over their big screen heroes in post-credits cameos. With Bale (until now) seemingly out of the loop, a quick generic Batman reference could have been made, or there was the big gamble of passing the cowl to Joseph Gordon-Levitt for a post-credits cameo. While incorporating Levitt would have allowed the Dark Knight continuity to remain intact for Justice League, it would have heavily watered down the Batman character.

For all intents and purposes securing Nolan's team seems like the best case scenario WB could bank on for Justice League. It appears they are finally done with half assing anything to do with what it takes to make this a guaranteed box office blockbuster. With Cavill and Bale starring, they would have two familiar faces in addition to incorporating The Dark Knight mythos. Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Green Lantern is still a major x-factor, though it would be silly to think WB does not have him signed to a firm multi-picture deal that would include Justice League. Then figuring out what to do with Wonder Woman and possibly The Flash are whole other issues altogether.

WB is facing a whole new world of tentpole competition. The Disney/Marvel team have had rampant success with their characters, which was cemented by The Avengers' over $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales in 2012. That remains an open wound to Warners on a sheer business sense as they rapidly lose ground on the superhero battle field. WB also finds itself Harry Potter-less while Disney/Lucasfilm has an unlimited well to tap in addition to Star Wars on deck.

Green Lantern's failure at the box office was a huge blow to WB (you could technically go back to 2006's Superman Returns as the first big set-back), and losing Bale and Nolan left the studio with no choice but to plan a Batman reboot down the line. And frankly any way you look at it, what a thankless task it will be to follow in the footsteps of The Dark Knight trilogy.

Disney has their Joss Whedon / Kevin Feige camp, and added J.J. Abrams to spearhead the next wave of Star Wars films. Even 20th Century Fox has brought writer Mark Millar aboard to properly oversee and intergrade their big screen Marvel properties like X-Men and Fantastic Four. WB still needs a guiding force for these potential tentpoles in the long run, and there are no better ones to retain the services of than their current in-house creative powerhouse team of Nolan and Snyder. The biggest franchises on the big screen are now run behind-the-scenes by A-List filmmakers and the future of the DC heroes is nothing to take lightly or shortchange with a changing of the guard.

It's a waiting game now to see what, if any, of this gets confirmed by the studio. Christopher Nolan is a busy and ambitious filmmaker, and it would be a huge years-long commitment for him to continue on with another superhero franchise like this. Most likely we will have to wait until June 14th when Man of Steel is unleashed and prove to be a box office phenomenon before ANY of this rampant speculation is addressed by Warner Brothers. Plus it's not in Christopher Nolan's nature to reveal anything before its time. But if Man of Steel soars and (fingers crossed) this plan proves true, there would be no bigger or better way to approach Justice League than to have Cavill and Bale headline with Nolan, Snyder and Goyer behind the scenes.

Expect a lot more on this story, confirmations, denials and all...

Zack Snyder Hints At 'Justice League' Ties To 'Man of Steel'

Talking to the New York Post, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder did not deny that there may be something cooking in his Superman reboot as far planting the seeds for the big screen Justice League movie is concerned.

“I don’t know how Justice League is going to be handled. Honestly, I don’t,” Snyder said. “But The Man of Steel exists, and Superman is in it. I don’t know how you’d move forward without acknowledging that.”

When grilled further on whether Man of Steel would lay down the groundwork to setting up the DC Universe on the big screen, as in a possible post-credits surprise cameo (a staple that built Marvel's well paced lead into The Avengers), or even a simple reference to Gotham City, Snyder did not directly answer, but his pleading the Fifth had him acknowledging the actual answer would in fact be spoiler material.

“Um, how can I answer that?” he wonders. “I can’t really say anything to that, because that’s a big spoiler. I will say, yeah, they trust me to keep them on course.” And that fans, would be a perfectly deflected 'Yes.'

“We approach the film as a single endeavor,” he said of the obvious plans beyond Man of Steel. “There are a lot of gears that have to turn in the world of commerce and the world of the mythology we create to facilitate more adventures for this character. We’ll see what happens.”

Warner Bros. has a interesting path to take with building towards Justice League, which would presumably team up the big DC Trinity of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman along with possible popular candidates like Green Lantern, Flash and Aquaman. WB just concluded its current run with Christian Bale as Batman with The Dark Knight Rises, so a new Caped Crusader will be on board from here on in. 2011's Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds was far from a hit with fans, critics or the box office. Moving forward from that film is up in the air, but including Reynolds would at least add a second familiar face to a team of rebooted big screen heroes. Wonder Woman has stalled over the years attempting to get to either the small screen and big screen, so her re-introduction will likely fall within Justice League.

The new big screen Superman, Henry Cavill, is signed on for three films, which is not uncommon for big potential franchises. Whether Justice League is a part of that deal remains to be seen, but looks like a sure bet he will headline it. Though even committing to three pics seems like a light load next to the contract Chris Evans signed with Marvel Studios to play Captain America, whose whopping nine picture deal was talked down to six, and that included appearing in The Avengers and its sequels. In addition, it is highly likely Ryan Reynolds also signed a multi-picture deal for Green Lantern, so whether WB holds him to that in regards to Justice League or not is another factor to weigh in on.

But whatever the exact plan may be, its is more likely than not that Warners will use Man of Steel as a springboard for the big screen DC Universe considering its the only live action project on the horizon set for release in the next two years.

Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill (Superman/Clark Kent/Kal-El), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Russell Crowe (Jor-El), Michael Shannon (General Zod) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), is set for theaters on June 14, 2013.

The highly anticipated first full-length trailer will be attached to The Hobbit, which bows on December 14th.

No 'Justice League' Movie For Christopher Nolan

In an interview with the Associated Press, Christopher Nolan put to rest all notions that he wants or will have anything to do with Warner Bros. inevitable reboot of Batman, or the Justice League big screen adaptation currently being written.

"No, none at all," Nolan said. "We're finished with all we're doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character," he said.

WB will have to look elsewhere once The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20th and it comes to putting the Caped Crusader back on the big screen. Nolan is firm on hanging up the cape and cowl for good, and is adamant that he has completed the story he wanted to tell. The studio finds itself in a similar situation that Sony did when it came to re-booting the Spider-Man franchise, having a character that is a worldwide phenomenon and far too lucrative to keep off the big screen for too long.

"I've got no plans to do anything more, and certainly, no involvement with any Justice League project."

Although he is finished sharing his interpretation of Batman with moviegoers, Nolan is still intimately involved in the superhero business. There is the upcoming Man Of Steel, the new Superman film directed by Zack Snyder, starring Henry Cavill, which is set to hit theaters next year.

Nolan serves as executive producer on the reboot of DC Comics icon, and was responsible for the initial concept that starts ground up after plans for a direct sequel to 2006's Superman Returns starring Brandon Routh were scrapped. Like The Dark Knight for Batman, Man Of Steel promises to feature a grittier take on the Kryptonian hero's origins and adventures.

Though there has been some lingering clamor from fans that since the director/producer has involvement with two of the Justice League's marquee members, that he would be a natural choice to put his big screen Batman and Superman side-by-side with Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman in an Avengers-style all-star blockbuster for Warner Bros.

But it appears that Nolan is not keen on his current version of the Caped Crusader played by Christian Bale branching off into spin-offs, and it remains to be seen if the next Superman played by Cavill would be treated the same. One could also wonder if Ryan Reynolds would be offered, or is perhaps contractually obligated, to appear in a Justice League movie as Green Lantern following his turn as the Emerald Knight in last year's film.

"Batman will outlive us all, and our interpretation was ours. Obviously, we consider it definitive and kind of finished. The great thing about Batman is he lives on for future generations to reinterpret, and obviously, Warners will have to decide in the future what they're going to do with him," Nolan said.

"We've had our say on the character," he concluded.

And that is that.

The Dark Knight Rises is set for July 20th. Man Of Steel is set for June 14, 2013.

Nathan Fillion & Tim Daly Spoof Their Roles As Green Lantern and Superman

On the heels of the release of Justice League: Doom yesterday comes this episode of The Daly Show starring Tim Daly and Nathan Fillion, who provide the voices Superman and Green Lantern in the animated feature. I can't think of a better pep rally video in favor of the "Nerds Rule" movement.

Daly has voiced the Man of Steel in various projects since 1996, while Fillion, in addition to being an early fan favorite to play Green Lantern in the live action film (check out this amazing fan made trailer from 2009), has played the character in two animated features since 2011.

Check out this episode entitled "The Daly Superheroes," where obviously the two popular television actors are not only great buddies, but have fun affinity for playing out their superhero alter egos in real life. And stay tuned for an additional clever cameo at the end.

The Daly Show is a web series starring real life father and son Tim and Sam Daly, produced by filmmaking brothers Ben and Josh Shelton at Shelton Films.
