The ROBOCOP Remake Gets An Official Poster

The RoboCop remake got its first (underwhelming) trailer last week, and now an official poster is upon us. While the re-design of Detroit's best robot crime fighter does ultimately look better than the first unofficial pics that emerged from the set that caused an uproar last year (but still looking like Batman's body armor with a Cylon visor), overall I am not in the least bit excited for this totally unnecessary remake that has The Killing's Joel Kinnaman stepping in for Peter Weller as Alex Murphy / RoboCop.

Check out the new generic character poster in addition to the film's first trailer below, which is of course chock full of homages to the original. Would you buy this for a dollar?

Directed by José Padilha, the cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Michael Keaton, Jackie Earle Haley, and Jay Baruchel.

The film is set for release on February 7th, 2014.

We can keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best, but there is sometimes simply no replacing a dark twisted pop culture classic like the 1987 Paul Verhoeven original. Notice that the score from The Terminator is used in this early preview.

First Glimpse At The New 'RoboCop' From The Toronto Set

Would you buy this for a dollar? Courtesy of ComingSoon.net, we have our first look at what RoboCop will look like in the reboot starring The Killing's Joel Kinnaman in the title role.

It's a rather uninspired, if not lazy, update of the look made famous by the iconic clunky suit worn by Peter Weller in the 1987 original. And it's not a stretch to say there aren't a few pages borrowed from Nolan's Batman costume or the battle armor worn by Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, and the Joes in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

While I didn't feel as negative towards this summer's reboot of Total Recall as many others did, it was still a completely unnecessary remake. RoboCop is already suffering from negative online buzz, and maintaining a firm stature as another pointless modern day redux. Coincidentally, both the original Total Recall and RoboCop were directed by Paul Verhoeven, whose penchant for dark humor was a signature of the twisted appeal of both films. This first look at the new design is not going to win over a lot of fans.

Offical Synopsis:
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
The film, directed by Jose Padilha for MGM and Columbia Pictures, also stars Michael Keaton Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Jay Baruchel, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

RoboCop is set to clean the crime-ridden streets of Detroit on August 9th, 2013.

TRAILER: 'The Dark Knight Returns'

The first full length trailer to the animated adaptation of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns has been released.

The groundbreaking 1986 four-issue graphic novel was not only a game changer for adult targeted comic books and introduced fans to the first female Robin, but re-defined the legend of Batman to a dark, violent path to a point of no return that influenced both Tim Burton and the Christopher Nolan's big screen versions of the Caped Crusader.

The home video release from Warner Premiere stars Peter Weller (Robocop, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai) as Batman/Bruce Wayne.

Official synopisis:
"It's been a decade since Bruce Wayne hung up his cape, following most of the other superheroes who had been forced into retirement. Facing the downside of middle age, a restless Bruce Wayne pacifies his frustration with race cars and liquor – but the bat still beckons as he watches his city fall prey to gangs of barbaric criminals known as The Mutants.
The return of Harvey Dent as Two-Face finally prompts Wayne to once again don the Dark Knight's cowl, and his dramatic capture of the villain returns him to crime-fighting – simultaneously making him the target of law enforcement and the new hope for a desolate Gotham City. Particularly inspired is a teenage girl named Carrie, who adopts the persona of Robin and ultimately saves Batman from a brutal attack by the Mutant leader. Armed with a new sidekick, and re-energized with a definitive purpose, the Dark Knight returns to protect Gotham from foes new...and old."

The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 is set for release on October 23.

TRAILER: 'Skyfall' #2

Hot on the heels of the unforgettable Olympics short film co-starring Daniel Craig and the newest Bond girl Queen Elizabeth II, the second trailer for Skyfall hit today. In addition to new juicy plot point hints, we get our first glimpse of Javier Bardem decked out in a blonde bouffant as 007's latest villain, Silva, as well as a little more from the new Q played by Ben Whishaw.

Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond adventure, and directed by Sam Mendes, is set to hit theaters and IMAX screens on November 9th.
