PETER CAPALDI's New Look As The Twelfth Doctor Revealed!

“He's woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord,” says Peter Capaldi about the look of the Twelfth Doctor's.

Via Twitter, BBC has revealed Peter Capaldi's threads as the Doctor. When the 55-year old Scotsman made a brief post-regeneration appearance at the conclusion of The Time of the Doctor, he was still wearing the clothes of the Eleventh Doctor. We now have a the full reveal of what Capaldi will be wearing in Doctor Who's upcoming Season Eight.

Per BBC:
"A brand-new era of Doctor Who begins as the Time Lord dons a new look. Each incarnation of the Doctor has his own original style, and BBC AMERICA has just released the first photo of the Twelfth Doctor’s costume. Sporting a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt as well as black Doc Marten shoes, the look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden. Commenting on his costume, Peter Capaldi said: “He's woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.” While lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffatadded: “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over - Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!” This new look will be featured in the series when Doctor Who returns to BBC AMERICA later this year. Filming on the upcoming season, which also stars Jenna Coleman (Death Comes to Pemberley) as companion Clara, is currently underway in Cardiff."

First Look Image of Peter Capaldi On The Set of DOCTOR WHO Is Revealed!

The BBC has released the first official pic of Peter Capaldi on the Cardiff, Wales set of Doctor Who along side Jenna Coleman. It is the first day of filming in 2014 for Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, who was first fully seen briefly at the conclusion of the Who Christmas Special, The Time of the Doctor.

This sneak peek does not provide us with a full reveal of the newest incarnation of the iconic Time Lord. The 55-year old Capaldi is seen wearing the clothes of the Eleventh Doctor, played by Matt Smith. So this image is probably taken from an early scene in the episode, and the newly regenerated Doctor has yet to pick out his new threads.

Filming on series eight is scheduled to go to August, and new episodes are expected to air in the fall of 2014.

From the BBC:
The new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, stepped on set today for his first full day of filming as production begins on series 8 of the hit BBC show.
10.2 million tuned-in on Christmas Day to get their first glimpse of Capaldi in one of TV’s most iconic roles in the festive special The Time of the Doctor, which saw Matt Smith hang-up his bow tie after 4 years in the role.
Capaldi was revealed as the Doctor in a live BBC One show in August, after months of speculation about the next Doctor’s identity.
Arriving on set in Cardiff to begin filming, Peter Capaldi said:
“New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.”
It should be noted that Capaldi is officially considered the Twelfth Doctor. While the regeneration count is at thirteen when including John Hurt's War Doctor and Tennant's re-deux, the numbering of the Doctors remains intact. Thankfully this ends the rampant speculation that arose surrounding the events of the 50th Anniversary regarding what "number" Capaldi's Doctor would be.

First Clip & Extended Trailer Released From The DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special, THE TIME OF THE DOCTOR

Matt Smith's time as the Doctor is coming to end on Christmas Day. In this year's highly anticipated Christmas Special, The Time of the Doctor, we will see Smith regenerate into the next incarnation of the iconic Time Lord, to be played by Peter Capaldi, and the next stage of adventures will be set.

As we saw in last month's 50th Anniversary episode, The Day of the Doctor, Gallifrey is still out there in a time pocket, and not destroyed by the Doctor in accordance with a new timeline, and a new driving arc has been found for the show's future.

Matt Smith's swan song is sure to leave fans at a loss, but at the same time a welcome introduction to Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor (or Thirteenth? Fourteenth??).

From BBC:
"As the eleventh hour nears, a regeneration is on the horizon, but not before the Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companion, Clara (Jenna Coleman), enjoy one last adventure. This year’s Doctor Who Christmas special marks the end of the Eleventh Doctor. Through his many adventures, this Doctor has rescued dinosaurs on a spaceship, married his love – River Song and encountered aliens including The Silence, Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels and more. But it was his latest adventure, The Day of the Doctor, that effectively changed the course of his history as we know it when he and twelve versions of himself banded together to save Gallifrey from destruction. Now facing his very last adventure, the Eleventh Doctor receives a signal that brings him face-to-face with a massed force of the universe’s deadliest aliens. What this signal means for his future life is unknown, but when the clock strikes twelve, the Eleventh will be no more."
"Join BBC AMERICA for a full day of Doctor Who when the series takes over Christmas. Catch the TV premiere of the six-minute Doctor Who prequel, The Night of The Doctorat 6:00pm ET followed by an encore of the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor. Then tune-in for the world premiere of an all-new special, Farewell to Matt Smith, a retrospective look back at Matt Smith’s time as the Eleventh Doctor at 8:00pm ET followed by the premiere of The Time of the Doctor at 9:00pm ET."

THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR (Teaser) Trailer is Here! UPDATED!

As planned, BBC One is set to debut the extended first look tonight, but it appears that the trailer teaser for the highly anticipated the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor that hit this morning was just that, a teaser.

It runs 40-seconds and leans heavily towards action over plot, but plays off as a sufficient sneak peek for the teaming of Matt Smith and David Tennant's Doctors Eleven and Ten on November 23rd! BBC One tweeted this afternoon that the actual FULL trailer will debut tonight at 8pm UK time.

This teaser provides quick glimpses of John Hurt, Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper, some Time War action and bad guy cameos from the Daleks and Zygons.

Hold tight for the extended look in a few hours...

Here is the official synopsis:
"In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him."

The First Teaser Clip From DAY OF THE DOCTOR Is Here!

It looks like things are really and finally starting to ramp up for The Day of the Doctor, with a little less than two weeks to go before Doctor Who celebrates its 50th Anniversary with the highly anticipated special. BBC officially announced the worldwide broadcast is set for 2:50pm EST on November 23rd.

We don't get much from the episode here, it's by definition a teaser clip. But we do get a peek at a very familiar scarf on Ingrid Oliver don't we?

Here is the official synopsis:

DAY OF THE DOCTOR Teaser Trailer Traces DOCTOR WHO's 50 Year History

We're about a month away from the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, which falls on November 23rd and works out nicely for the BBC's event worldwide simulcast of the show's half century episode, The Day of The Doctor.

This new clever teaser trailer narrated by Matt Smith traces the iconic Time Lord's history from the first Doctor, William Hartnell, to the iconic scarf wearing Tom Baker, to Smith, the current curator of the TARDIS. OK sure, so no actual footage from the episode itself is in this teaser, it looks like the BBC is gonna let this simmer as long as it can.

The Day of the Doctor, shot in 3D, teams Matt Smith and David Tennant for the first time. John Hurt joins the adventure as well as Billie Piper as Rose Tyler and current Who companion Jenna Coleman (who has dropped the Louise from her billings). This anniversary show will also be the penultimate adventure for Smith's Eleventh Doctor, who will meet his demise at year's end in the Who Christmas Special and regenerate into number Twelve, or will it be Thirteen (set to be played by Peter Capaldi)?

The First Images from DOCTOR WHO's 'THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR' Revealed!

BBC has released the first official images from the upcoming Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of The Doctor.

Teaming up for the fist time are Matt Smith and David Tennant as the Eleventh and Tenth Doctors. Joining them is John Hurt as a still unidentified incarnation of the iconic Time Lord, though speculation predominately points to an unseen version that existed between Paul McGann's Eighth and Christopher Eccleston's Ninth. Jenna Coleman will be on hand as The Doctor's current companion Clara Oswald, and Billie Piper is set to return as Rose Tyler.

The half century in the making episode will have a worldwide simulcast on November 23rd, and have additional 3D presentations in select movies theaters. I was a lucky attendee of the NYC premiere of Asylum of the Daleks at the iconic Ziegfeld Theater, and it was an amazing experience to watch the Doctor on the big screen. I urge you to experience Day of the Doctor in a theater full of your fellow Whovians if you have the opportunity in your town.

Additionally from BBC:
"BBC AMERICA is releasing the very first images from the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode The Day of the Doctor, premiering Saturday, November 23.

The special will be feature length with 75 minutes of adventure, starring Matt Smith (How to Catch a Monster), David Tennant (Broadchurch), Jenna Coleman (Dancing on the Edge), with Billie Piper (Secret Diary of a Call Girl) and John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Alien).

For the first time ever, the world’s longest running and most successful sci-fi series will be broadcast simultaneously to millions of viewers worldwide in a global simulcast. From the U.S. to the UK, Canada to Colombia, Brazil to Botswana and Myanmar to Mexico, fans in at least 75 countries, spanning six continents, will be able to enjoy the episode at the same time as the UK.

On top of the worldwide TV broadcast, BBC AMERICA will announce in the coming days details of select 3D screenings of the anniversary episode in theatres in the U.S."

DOCTOR WHO 50th Anniversary Special Title & Poster Revealed!

The highly anticipated Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special now has an official title: THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR.

“The Day of the Doctor is nearly here!" Matt Smith said in BBC's press release. "Hope you all enjoy. There’s lots more coming your way, as the countdown to the 50th begins now.”

In addition to celebrating the landmark half century of space and time traveling for the Doctor on the actual date the first episode aired in 1963, the 75-minute special will see the teaming of the Matt Smith's current Eleventh Doctor along with David Tennant's Tenth Doctor. John Hurt, as revealed in Who's season finale, will appear as another version of the Time Lord yet to be revealed (though speculation mainly points to the sinister Valeyard from 1986's Sixth Doctor Colin Baker-era The Trial of a Timelord).

Though looking at the poster, you can't help but wish to see Doctors Nine, Ten and Eleven together. It's all the more extremely disappointing that Christopher Eccleston couldn't put his personal pretenses aside and done Whovians a solid by agreeing to appear in the special. If it proves true that the Classic Doctors will not factor in the story substantially, it would have been great to at least have the three Modern Doctors share the small screen for one adventure.

The Day of the Doctor, shot in 3D and set to air on BBC simultaneously all over the world on November 23rd, also brings back Billie Piper as Rose Tyler as well as current Who companion Jenna Coleman (who has dropped the Louise from her billings). The anniversary show will also be the penultimate adventure for Smith's Eleventh Doctor, who will meet his demise at year's end in the Who Christmas Special and regenerate into number Twelve, or will it be Thirteen (set to be played by Peter Capaldi)?

See The Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi Take The Stage on 'Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor'

Earlier today Peter Capaldi was revealed to replace Matt Smith on Doctor Who, you can read my report on that HERE.

In case you missed his live introduction on the half hour special broadcast in the States on BBC America, here is a clip from the show featuring Capaldi's entrance onto stage as he was announced as the Twelfth Doctor and subsequent interview with host Zoe Ball.

Meet The Twelfth Doctor! Peter Capaldi Announced As The Successor To Matt Smith in 'Doctor Who'

The identity of the Twelfth Doctor is no longer a secret fellow Whovians! The next Time Lord has been chosen and the actor set to portray the new Doctor is Peter Capaldi.

During this afternoon's worldwide broadcast of the half hour special Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor hosted by Zoe Ball, Capaldi was announced as the successor to Matt Smith and will assume the role of the immortal Time Lord in the iconic sci-fi show, which will soon celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

"It's so wonderful to not keep this secret any longer," he said when he was brought out on stage.

Capaldi, a 55-year-old Scotsman is both a Whovian and Doctor Who alumni interestingly enough, having appeared in the 2008 Who episode The Fires of Pompeii as Caecilius. He also had roles in the Who spin-off Torchwood, a memorable part in the UK series The Thick of It and was also recently seen in this summer's World War Z playing a doctor for the World Health Organization. Yes, a doctor for W.H.O..

"I think Doctor Who is an extraordinary show," Capaldi said.

"The thing that strikes me about it that it's still here after all this time. And the reason it's still here is because of the work of all the writers, and the directors, the producers and the actors. Not just the fabulous actors who have played the Doctor, but also those actors who have sweated inside rubber monster costumes and those who have worn futuristic lurex cat suits. But the real reason, the big reason that Doctor Who is still with us: Every single viewer who ever turned on to watch this show, at age at any time in its history, and in their history, took it into their heart. Because Doctor Who belongs to all of us. Everyone made Doctor Who," he told the live audience.

Matt Smith has been the face of Doctor Who since 2010, and shocked fans when he announced on June 1st that he would be leaving show at the end of the year. He said in an official statement:
“Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show.

“I’m incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years."
Smith's adventures through time in the TARDIS end in the 2013 Christmas Special, where his Eleventh Doctor ultimately meets his demise and will regenerate into Capaldi's Twelfth incarnation of the Time Lord.

Still on deck for Smith is the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special set to air on November 23rd, which will also guest star his predecessor David Tennant (reprising his role as the Tenth Doctor), former Who companion Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, and John Hurt as a mysterious and as yet still undetermined version of the Time Lord.

In a taped interview for Doctor Who Live Matt Smith (who was in LA), revealed he was approached by Capaldi on the street in 2010 after seeing the Who episode The Eleventh Hour, and was complimented on his performance.

"I'm excited because I know whats coming and he's going to have a blast," Smith said. "It's been great man. it's a really cool job, be hard to top."

Capaldi is also a long time friend and former bandmate of talk show host Craig Ferguson, also an avid Whovian who keeps a TARDIS on his desk.

Matt Smith's Successor Will Be Revealed During a Live 'Doctor Who' Special This Sunday!

The 12th Doctor has been chosen!

The BBC is set to reveal the identity of who will succeed Matt Smith as The Doctor on a half-hour live special. Hosted by Zoe Ball, Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor is set for broadcast this Sunday afternoon here in the States on BBC-America at 2PM EST.

Per BBC:
"Widely regarded as one of the most hotly contested roles in British television, the special’s host Zoe Ball will unveil the Twelfth Doctor in their first ever interview in front of a live studio audience. The half hour show will include live special guests, Doctors old and new, as well as companions and celebrity fans. Current Doctor Matt Smith and lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat will both give interviews in the special.

Steven Moffat says: “The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the TARDIS. For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve.”

Matt Smith will make his penultimate appearance in the 50th Anniversary special on Saturday, November 23 and his Eleventh Doctor will regenerate in the Christmas Special. Doctor Who is produced by BBC Cymru Wales."

New 'Doctor Who' Video From BBC Teases Tom Baker's Iconic Fourth Doctor!

Well doesn't this just throw things into a tizzy? BBC has released a new cryptic video, lets assume its tied to Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary in general and not the 50th Anniversary Special, that heavily favors Tom Baker's iconic Fourth Doctor. Why? Well why not. But they don't really go beyond leaving us to sweat it out and rack our Whovian brains to over think it. Though the hashtag #thefourth is given, so things are on the move...

'Don't you forget me."

DOCTOR WHO INTERVIEW: Peter Davison Talks His Time Lord Family Tree & Who's 50th Anniversary (Part Two)

In Part One of my chat with Peter Davison at New York Comic Con, we focused on his time in the early '80s playing the Fifth Doctor. For Part Two we move to more recent events for Davison, switching gears to discuss the Fifth and Tenth Doctors shared time in the TARDIS for the BBC's 2007 Children In Need Special, the circumstances involved in becoming an in-law to David Tennant, and what Davison knows about Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary plans.

Before we get to the interview, let's see if we can sort out Davison's own amazing Time Lord Family Tree. Peter's daughter Georgia Moffett (no relation to Who's current show runner Steven Moffat), guest starred as the title character in the 2008 Doctor Who episode titled, you guessed it, The Doctor's Daughter. Georgia played Jenny opposite David Tennant's then current Tenth Doctor. As fate would have it, Moffett and Tennant hit it off, married in 2011 and are proud parents to Davison's granddaughter, Olive Tennant.

So the Fifth Doctor's real life daughter portrayed the Tenth Doctor's daughter on TV, and then married her TV Doctor father in real life. Additionally, said Doctor's daughter is also both the proud mother of the Tenth Doctor's daughter and Fifth Doctor's granddaughter. Throw in for good measure that the Fifth Doctor is the Tenth Doctor's father-in-law.

Got that? Now onto the interview.

Tell us about teaming up with David Tennant for the Doctor Who: Time Crash short in 2007.

DAVISON: I loved it because I was his Doctor. And that was really the point of that Children In Need special, a double thing about it. Him looking back at his own self, but also talking about him as David Tennant, watching me on the telly. It was fantastic and it was a great thrill doing it with him. He has since become my son-in-law of course. When I’m always talking about him as a different entity, then I think he's my son-in-law. But no, he was great. It was an honor to be doing it and we had a great deal of fun making it. We did it in one day.

Thank you for the little lead into my next question. Your daughter Georgia had a memorable role playing ironically enough, The Doctor's Daughter. What was your reaction when she told you she had a role in Doctor Who?

DAVISON: Originally when she went up, she was among the many other people who went up for Rose [eventually played by Billie Piper]. So I thought it was great. She came home and they offered her a part in a particular story, but they said "We'd rather you not do this part because we have a much better part in a later story if you'd like to hang on." So she asked me what I thought she should do, "Well you just have to trust its decently written of course."

When it came along the story they wanted her to do was called The Doctor's Daughter, they obviously saw the irony of it. So they decided this would be a much better part for her to do because it worked on every level. I thought it was great, I think she's a brilliant actress, Georgia. I think she's terrific. I just saw her on the West End. I hope she sticks with it. But she's a bit like me, I never had a driving ambition. I loved working, but I don't think i ever had a driving ambition. I was mostly driven by the fact that people kept offering me jobs, which was great. I think she's much the same way and she has the baby now. She wants to be a mother as well.

With two Doctors in the family now, you must get your fair share of double takes when you and David  are out together in public.

DAVISON: It's very weird now. This just happened a couple of weeks ago: David and my daughter came over and we decided to go for a walk with the dog, so we got ready. Now as a matter of course when I'm in a crowded park I put on my baseball cap and dark glasses. So I do that, walk out and look around and David of course is wearing exactly the same thing. So we both have dark glasses and baseball caps pulled down over our heads because we both suffer from the same thing. I think I would be fine now actually, but I'm so programmed to be doing this thinking in case people go, "Hey mate, where's your TARDIS?" But David of course still gets terribly hassled if you go out anywhere. I've not been out with him anywhere I've had to drag him away from people in the end. He wants to stand there and sign autographs but you just can't do it. The more you do it the more people come up and just draws more attention. So in the end he has to be rescued.

What do you feel is your legacy in regards to the enduring near fifty year history of Doctor Who?

DAVISON: I think the legacy of not only me but the other Classic Doctors, which I think did suffer from sometimes dodgy scripts and dodgy sets, but you know out there watching these programs were I picture these three little boys: One of whom would grow up to be Doctor Who, another which would grow up to produce Doctor Who and another who got to write Doctor Who in David Tennant, Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat. So in another words, it's the lunatics now running the asylum, and they're doing a damn good job of it really!

2013 will be a milestone year for Doctor Who. Can you share any news? Would you be open to participate in an Anniversary Reunion Special?

DAVISON: Honestly I have not heard anything at all, so I don't know. I'd be very happy to take part in whatever they want me to take part in. I'm just worried that it might be a little difficult to do it and make it work as a proper story. Unless it was a special, almost a bit like David and I did. He's very resourceful Steven [Moffat], so he might come up with the way of doing it, who knows.

Following our interview, Davison had this to add during his New York Comic Con Panel Discussion when asked about the Who Fiftieth Anniversary.

DAVISON: Every day I check the phone to see if Steven Moffat has called me. I have no idea. I'm sure people think I'm in some way sworn to secrecy, but I dont know what's happening next year. I've nothing to report on this. I'm sure it will be something fantastic, but I don't know what. I think Steven Moffat is playing it very close to his chest.

It should also be noted that these interviews took place prior to the recent announcement that the five living Classic Doctors (Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann)  would be lending their voices for an special anniversary audio drama called Doctor Who: The Light At The End. Whether they will appear together in the planned televised special on November 23rd or participate in other events still remains a mystery.
