Will Peter Davison Appear In The DOCTOR WHO 50th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL?

While there has been nothing but a thick shroud of Deny Deny Deny on whether any of the actors who portrayed Classic Doctors would appear in the highly anticipated Who 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor,  some interesting news has emerged from the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison.

Following an alleged staged protest earlier this week outside of the BBC by Davison, Sixth Doctor Colin Baker and Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy, presumably captured for some sort of 50th Anniversary tie-in, he had some rather interesting snippets in store for a interview on Daybreak regarding the landmark 75-minute episode.

“I’ve heard lots of rumors, none of which I’m allowed to tell you anything about. I’m privy to them, actually,” Davison said.

“I have got a copy of the script which has got my name embossed across it. So it’s top secret, but there’s other stuff, lots of other things that are going on that people should keep their eye open for around the 50th-anniversary special!”

So Davison has a personal copy of The Day of the Doctor's script with his name on it in addition to being in the know all about the production? That does seem a bit odd for someone who is supposedly not involved with the half century in the making episode. Granted he has been involved with the Modern Doctors, appearing in the Time Crash short alongside David Tennant (and his son-in-law), so the script may just be a gift from the production as well.

I sat down with Davison for an interview last year at New York Comic Con, and at the time he told me he would be a happy participant, but had not heard from Who show runner Steven Moffat.
"Honestly I have not heard anything at all, so I don't know. I'd be very happy to take part in whatever they want me to take part in. I'm just worried that it might be a little difficult to do it and make it work as a proper story. Unless it was a special, almost a bit like David and I did. He's very resourceful Steven [Moffat], so he might come up with the way of doing it, who knows."
Of course that was nearly a year ago and a lot has changed. The surviving Doctors will be heard on The Light At The End, a radio drama that will team all the Classic Time Lords together for one adventure, there are rumors Paul McGann has filmed a regeneration scene to bridge into John Hurt's dark Doctor introduction, and if the BBC can get Davison, Baker, and McCoy for a faux protest, the odds towards some exciting previously denied surprises may be on deck for November 23rd. But you can be certain Davison and many others will be involved in the overall celebration of the show's anniversary in some manner.

While much involved with the rich history of Doctor Who is being underplayed to the press in regards to The Day of the Doctor, I'm sure there are a few major tricks waiting to be sprung upon us on November 23rd. Though the biggest surprise would be any participation by Christopher Eccleston, who unfortunately for fans has shunned association with the episode, and anything to do with Doctor Who for that matter.

DOCTOR WHO 50th Anniversary Special Title & Poster Revealed!

The highly anticipated Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special now has an official title: THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR.

“The Day of the Doctor is nearly here!" Matt Smith said in BBC's press release. "Hope you all enjoy. There’s lots more coming your way, as the countdown to the 50th begins now.”

In addition to celebrating the landmark half century of space and time traveling for the Doctor on the actual date the first episode aired in 1963, the 75-minute special will see the teaming of the Matt Smith's current Eleventh Doctor along with David Tennant's Tenth Doctor. John Hurt, as revealed in Who's season finale, will appear as another version of the Time Lord yet to be revealed (though speculation mainly points to the sinister Valeyard from 1986's Sixth Doctor Colin Baker-era The Trial of a Timelord).

Though looking at the poster, you can't help but wish to see Doctors Nine, Ten and Eleven together. It's all the more extremely disappointing that Christopher Eccleston couldn't put his personal pretenses aside and done Whovians a solid by agreeing to appear in the special. If it proves true that the Classic Doctors will not factor in the story substantially, it would have been great to at least have the three Modern Doctors share the small screen for one adventure.

The Day of the Doctor, shot in 3D and set to air on BBC simultaneously all over the world on November 23rd, also brings back Billie Piper as Rose Tyler as well as current Who companion Jenna Coleman (who has dropped the Louise from her billings). The anniversary show will also be the penultimate adventure for Smith's Eleventh Doctor, who will meet his demise at year's end in the Who Christmas Special and regenerate into number Twelve, or will it be Thirteen (set to be played by Peter Capaldi)?

Meet The Twelfth Doctor! Peter Capaldi Announced As The Successor To Matt Smith in 'Doctor Who'

The identity of the Twelfth Doctor is no longer a secret fellow Whovians! The next Time Lord has been chosen and the actor set to portray the new Doctor is Peter Capaldi.

During this afternoon's worldwide broadcast of the half hour special Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor hosted by Zoe Ball, Capaldi was announced as the successor to Matt Smith and will assume the role of the immortal Time Lord in the iconic sci-fi show, which will soon celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

"It's so wonderful to not keep this secret any longer," he said when he was brought out on stage.

Capaldi, a 55-year-old Scotsman is both a Whovian and Doctor Who alumni interestingly enough, having appeared in the 2008 Who episode The Fires of Pompeii as Caecilius. He also had roles in the Who spin-off Torchwood, a memorable part in the UK series The Thick of It and was also recently seen in this summer's World War Z playing a doctor for the World Health Organization. Yes, a doctor for W.H.O..

"I think Doctor Who is an extraordinary show," Capaldi said.

"The thing that strikes me about it that it's still here after all this time. And the reason it's still here is because of the work of all the writers, and the directors, the producers and the actors. Not just the fabulous actors who have played the Doctor, but also those actors who have sweated inside rubber monster costumes and those who have worn futuristic lurex cat suits. But the real reason, the big reason that Doctor Who is still with us: Every single viewer who ever turned on to watch this show, at age at any time in its history, and in their history, took it into their heart. Because Doctor Who belongs to all of us. Everyone made Doctor Who," he told the live audience.

Matt Smith has been the face of Doctor Who since 2010, and shocked fans when he announced on June 1st that he would be leaving show at the end of the year. He said in an official statement:
“Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show.

“I’m incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years."
Smith's adventures through time in the TARDIS end in the 2013 Christmas Special, where his Eleventh Doctor ultimately meets his demise and will regenerate into Capaldi's Twelfth incarnation of the Time Lord.

Still on deck for Smith is the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special set to air on November 23rd, which will also guest star his predecessor David Tennant (reprising his role as the Tenth Doctor), former Who companion Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, and John Hurt as a mysterious and as yet still undetermined version of the Time Lord.

In a taped interview for Doctor Who Live Matt Smith (who was in LA), revealed he was approached by Capaldi on the street in 2010 after seeing the Who episode The Eleventh Hour, and was complimented on his performance.

"I'm excited because I know whats coming and he's going to have a blast," Smith said. "It's been great man. it's a really cool job, be hard to top."

Capaldi is also a long time friend and former bandmate of talk show host Craig Ferguson, also an avid Whovian who keeps a TARDIS on his desk.

Witness Tom Hiddleston Conquer Hall H As Loki At Marvel's Comic-Con Panel!

Tom Hiddleston is so damn good playing Loki, and he took the role to a new level at Comic-Con. He came in costume and in character out onto Hall H's stage to kick off Marvel's big Q&A panel.

"Humanity! Look how far you've fallen. Lining up in the sweltering heat for hours. Chattering together in the dark – like beasts!" he said to the 6500+ crowd of screaming fans.

Even if you don't watch the entire 40 minute show in the second clip, which includes news regarding The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World, and Guardians of the Galaxy, the first video of Hiddleston enjoying himself as Loki, chewing up the scenery and playing with the crowd truly makes for a Comic-Con must-see.

The 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' Trailer Is Online!

The trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was unveiled at Comic-Con during Lionsgate's Hall H panel Q&A with cast members Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Lenny Kravitz, Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright and Willow Shields.

The film is set for a 3D release on November 22nd.

'Avengers 2' Title Revealed at Comic-Con!

Joss Whedon gave Comic-Con's Hall H a huge surprise by showing the first teaser to the Avengers sequel set to hit theaters in 2015, and the surprising title of the film was revealed as well: Age of Ultron. An exciting development for sure for core fan base, but also means little to the casual moviegoer unfamiliar with the non-cinematic Marvel lore.

Here is io9's rundown of the teaser presentation.
"Whedon basically showed a short teaser in which soundbytes from the first Avengers played over video showing metal being put together, with sparks flying. At first, it looked like a new Iron Man mask — and then we pulled back and it revealed the trademark mask of the Avengers' great foe, the robot Ultron. And then we read the above movie title."
While its best never to assume anything, but the Thanos post-credits tease from the first Avengers installment has us on the side of thinking he would be the big villain that re-assemble Earth's Mightiest Heroes. But now with Ultron entering the mix, the landscape and possibilities have changed with the addition of the Marvel android baddie. We will wait now and see how far Thanos figures into Guardians of the Galaxy, and whether he will instead be the ultimate force to fight down the line in Avengers 3.

First Sneak Peek At The 'Veronica Mars' Movie Trailer From Comic-Con!

Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell and producer / director Rob Thomas were joined by the cult show's re-united cast including Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Francis Capra, Percy Daggs III, Ryan Hansen, Tina Majorino and Chris Lowell in Hall H at Comic-Con. With only two days left of shooting for Veronica Mars: The Movie, which took the concept of Kickstarter funded filmmaking to a whole new level of success, the cast and crew presented fans with a five minute video which also contained the first trailer to the $5 million fan-funded film.

"I wanted to do an Agatha Christie movie with everyone in one house, very few sets and very few guest stars," Thomas told the crowd during the Q&A. "And that's not what we did. We made an incredibly ambitious, sprawling low-budget movie. We wanted to include all of those smaller parts that fans really loved."

Cobie Smulders Will Appear As Maria Hill in 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Pilot, Possibly More Cameos Down The Line.

We know Agent Coulson lives, but he won't be the only big screen Marvel character to hit the small screen this fall. It looks like Joss Whedon was able to talk CBS and ABC into playing nice regarding How I Met Your Mother and The Avengers star Cobie Smulders. During the Marvel panel at Comic-Con, the first episode was screened for fans in Hall H and Agent Maria Hill in fact makes an appearance in the highly anticipated TV show set to debut on September 24th.

"Due to legal reasons, we can't show you a clip," Joss replied, "so we're just going to show you the episode," Whedon told the Comic-Con crowd. He not only serves as executive producer on the show, but also wrote and directed the pilot.

“I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”

With her long-running CBS hit comedy entering its final season, there might be breathing room for more appearances from Cobie down the line, and certainly more if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. goes into season two.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Clark Gregg (Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Agent Melinda May)and Brett Dalton (Agent Grant Ward), Ian De Caestrecker (Agent Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Simmons), and Chloe Bennet (Skye).

'Man of Steel' Teaser Trailers Hit The Web!

The official teaser trailer for the upcoming Man of Steel debuted with overwhelming enthusiasm from fans at Comic-Con last weekend. Warner Bros. has released that sneak peek at the Zack Snyder directed reboot of the Superman legend starring Henry Cavill. It is also currently running on the big screen with The Dark Knight Rises (also a WB film).

There are two versions of the trailer. Although each one is identical visually, completely different narration accompany the teasers. The Yahoo! Movies exclusive has a voice over from Kevin Costner, who plays Jonathan Kent, adopted Earth father of Clark Kent / Superman. The second version from MSN features Russell Crowe, who plays Jor-El, the Kryptonian father of Kal-El / Superman. Interesting to hear the different speeches regarding the destiny of Earth's greatest hero from his two fathers.

"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world's beacon of hope - Superman."
The film stars Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Russell Crowe (Jor-El), Ayelet Zurer (Lara Lor-Van), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora), Chris Meloni (Colonel Hardy), and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White).

In addition, the official website for the film has also gone live, www.ManOfSteel.com

Man of Steel is set to hit theaters and IMAX on June 14, 2013.

COMIC-CON SATURDAY: Marvel Studios 'Phase Two' Announcements

At the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con, several new sub-titles and release dates were announced, as were some rumor confirmations regarding the 'Phase Two' of their upcoming film slate. "Phase Two" would refer to the movies in the post-Avengers timeline.

Ben Kingsley has been (finally) confirmed as the main villain in the Shane Black directed Iron Man 3, playing The Mandarin. In addition, Stephanie Szostak has been announced as the latest addition to cast of the film, which is currently shooting in North Carolina. Downey will also be joined by newcomers Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, and Rebecca Hall in addition to the returning Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Jon Favreau.

Iron Man 3 is rumored to be based on the "Extremis" storyline from the comic book arc written by Warren Ellis. Tony Stark uses nanotechnology that allows him to merge with his Iron Man armor on a cellular level to defeat a terrorist organization. The concept art below does not dispute the direction the film may take
