Check Out The Extended Preview From AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.'s THOR: THE DARK WORLD Cross Over

ABC makes a wise decision this week with Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. by setting the episode in the direct aftermath of the events that took place on the big screen in Thor: The Dark World. While there has been no shortage of references to Agent Coulson's death in The Avengers and the recent inclusion of a Chitauri helmet as a plot point, the show could use a lot more tangible representation from the unlimited Marvel Cinematic Universe it actually takes place in.

A extended clip has been released, and if you have seen Thor: The Dark World, you are instantly familiar with the team's assignment. I would wager that the episode will keep things vague enough as to not completely spoil the film. While I understand Marvel and ABC's desire to separate the TV stuff from the movie stuff, but this is definitely the sort of thing I would like to see more of in the show. It has hit a stride in feeling too detached from the bigger picture, which frankly threatens to makes it feel like any other franchise featuring super spies with awesome gadgets and unlimited resources.

Do not expect any stars from Thor to stop by (nor should they, even though it's November sweeps), but maybe down the line we will see Cobie Smulders again reprise her role as Agent Maria Hill (as she did in the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot) when her How I Met Your Mother obligations are done. And since CBS played nice with Smulders schedule, maybe they could do the same with Kat Dennings and lighten up her Two Broke Girls workload to cameo as Darcy Lewis.

Episode Eight of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., titled The Well, airs this Tuesday on ABC at 8pm.

New AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Promo Teases Upcoming Season One Action

ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got off to a pretty solid start last night. The enjoyable pilot episode directed by Joss Whedon and anchored on-screen by Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, also boasted a Whedon-penned script that provided plenty of his signature humor, ensemble cast interaction, and fun fanboy references fit for new and old Marvel fans alike. The show's groundwork was firmly set, and even with a weekly TV budget that falls far below the open checkbook big screen Marvel adventures are allotted, the show looked great and pulled off a good run out of the starting gate.

Here is an additional new promo that shows us what else is in store for fans later in the season.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays on ABC at 8PM.

Ming-Na Cast In Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. Pilot For ABC

Clark Gregg has his first field agent co-star in the proposed S.H.I.E.L.D. television series set for ABC courtesy of The Avengers mastermind Joss Whedon.

According to Deadline, former ER and Stargate Universe star Ming-Na has been cast as Agent Melinda May, described as "soulful and slightly damaged by her combat experiences, Melinda is an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier who can, and has, gone beyond the call of duty."

Earlier this month, casting breakdowns appeared online (check them out here), and according to Deadline's scoop, the character was formerly known as Agent Althea Rice, a.k.a The Calvary.

At New York Comic Con Clark Gregg was the first cast member announced, and would be reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson, the Marvel big screen staple who was featured in Iron Man, Thor, and The Avengers.

Exactly how Coulson would fit into the show has yet to be revealed, if set in a post-Avengers timeline. The popular character could appear in flashbacks who is seen supervising the training or recruitment of the agents appearing on the show, or all events may simply precede this summer's billion dollar grossing big screen adventure.

More casting announcements should be on the way soon, and expect possible cameos by Samuel L. Jackson as director Nick Fury or How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill to be, in all likelihood, kept top secret.
