Lucasfilm Ends Production on Cartoon Network's 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars'

Lucasfilm announced today that production on Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be discontinued, having run on Cartoon Network for five seasons. When Disney purchased Star Wars from George Lucas, it was widely assumed that the CGI show's days on Cartoon Network were numbered, and would eventually switch to air on Disney XD instead. The announced actual end, or 'winding down' of the show does come somewhat as a surprise, though as stated in the press and video release, there is still a future planned for the characters, story arcs and completed animation they already have in the can. Additionally, Lucasfilm Animation has plans for a new series set in a yet untouched time frame in the Star Wars universe.

Lucasfilm is evidently putting all its resources to production on the next wave of Star Wars films, the first being Episode VII targeted to hit theaters in 2015 under the direction of J.J. Abrams. Disney axed the scheduled conversions and re-releases of Episodes II-VI in 3D and now the Lucasfilm animation department will also adjust its workload accordingly. This could mean that characters introduced in The Clone Wars series could potentially pop up in the next trilogy or could be groomed for separate spin-offs.

The recent Clone Wars fifth season finale left an uncertain, yet unexpected open door future for Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Padawan Ohsoka Tano, who would be an ideal popular character to use in the future to target the female demographic. Since all of the Jedi Knights except Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda have perished by the time Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope rolls around, Ohsoka's unaddressed final fate (as of now) leaves her free to possibly join in other adventures.

At the end of the video below, a teaser clip is included for what is still to come. Work on the series had obviously been well in place by the time Disney acquired Lucasfilm much less the decision to end the series. The action packed clip foreshadows Emperor Palpatine's Order 66 from Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which put in motion the Clone Troopers planned annihilation of the Jedi.

Here is the full press release from StarWars.com
"As we enter into an exciting new era focused on the next Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming. We are exploring a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming. You can expect more details in the months to come.
As part of this shift, we have also made some key decisions affecting Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Detours.
After five highly successful and critically acclaimed seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we feel the time has come to wind down the series. While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we're continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content. In the video below, Supervising Director Dave Filoni offers a peek of what is to come in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
At Star Wars Celebration VI last year, George Lucas gave fans a glimpse at the animated comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes. Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense. As a result, we've decided to postpone the release of Detours until a later date."

A Snake-Eyes & Storm Shadow Ninja Throw Down In 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Clip

In this new action packed clip from G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow have it out with bullets and ninja stars. The struggle between the two former brothers in the Arasikage Clan of ninjas (Ray Park and Byung-hun Lee) will hopefully feature heavily into the plot of the grittier sequel to 2008's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Focusing on the Generation Two characters from the '80s animated TV show, Roadblock, Flint, Lady Jaye, Jinx and Firefly are brought into the mix for the highly anticipated new big screen 3D mission.

As seen at the conclusion of the last film, while in disguise Zartan has assumed the role of the President of the United States. We pick up in Retaliation with team Joe being taken out by the armed forces in a secret attack, and left in shambles. With the country under the control of Cobra Commander, Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson) leads a special elite team along with the original Joe (Bruce Willis) to not only battle their sworn enemy, but bring the back government out from their control as well.

Directed by John M. Chu and set to hit theaters on March 27th in 3D, G.I. Joe Retaliation stars Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), D.J. Cotrona (Flint), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jaye), Ray Stevenson (Firefly), Channing Tatum (Duke), RZA (Blind Master), Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow), Elodie Yung (Jinx), Bruce Willis (Joe Colton), Ray Park (Snake Eyes) and Arnold Vosloo (Zartan).

TEASER TRAILER: 'The Hangover Part III'

"Don't worry, it all ends tonight." It's round three for the Wolfpack. Hot on the heels of the Harry Potter-inspired one-sheet released yesterday, the first look teaser trailer for the conclusion to The Hangover series hit the web today.

The third entry in the trilogy looks like it breaks from the darker and very redundant plot of Part II which re-purposed the bachelor party from hell formula. Where Hangover II took the Wolfpack to Thailand for Stu's wedding, the boys will make a return visit to Sin City for good measure.

Even though Ed Helms' Stu is now a taken man, they return to Sin City and his Vegas stripper ex-wife Jade (heather Graham) factors in. 'She's a nice lady!!!' Alan scolded Phil in the first installment.

This outing looks to mix heist film (with pig masked bandits) and road trip elements as well. Plus Mr. Chow returns.

As the log line says "This time, there's no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off."

Hopefully this last installment in the Hangover trilogy will be a fitting final hunt for our beloved Wolfpack. Will they burn Vegas to the ground?

The Hangover Part III, directed by Todd Phillips reunites stars Bradley Cooper (Phil), Ed Helms (Stu), Zack Galifianakis (Alan), Justin Bartha (Doug), Ken Jeong (Mr. Chow), Heather Graham (Jade) and Jeffrey Tambor. John Goodman will join the crew.

The party begins on May 24th to bring one last round of debauchery to Memorial Day Weekend.

New Images Revealed From The 'Doctor Who' Mid-Season Premiere 'The Bells of Saint John'

With almost daily online teases that keep us on our toes regarding who may or may not be participating in the big Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, it's good to know there are still new episodes on deck for Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor.

Following the events of The Snowmen, 2012's Doctor Who Christmas Special, the Doctor returns on March 30th in The Bells of St. John to complete the second half of its current season with that swanky retro title sequence, a revamped TARDIS and his new companion Clara Oswin Oswald. Given the established mysterious nature of Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) this may technically be her third first appearance, having already died twice before our eyes in two different time periods. The post-Ponds dynamic will be an interesting arc to follow throughout the remaining eight episodes preceeding the big Anniversary Special set to air on November 23rd.

From BBC America:
Set in London against the backdrop of new and old iconic landmarks – The Shard and Westminster Bridge – The Bells of St. John introduces a new nemesis, the Spoonheads, who battle the Doctor as he discovers something sinister is lurking in the Wi-Fi. The premiere will be followed by seven epic episodes written by Steven Moffat, acclaimed writer Neil Gaiman (Coraline, Beowulf), Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), Neil Cross (Luther) and Stephen Thompson (Sherlock).
BBC America released new images from the first four upcoming episodes, including the show's March 30th return in addition to an official pic of the revamped Ice Warriors (set to appear in episode three The Cold War). Current Who EP Steven Moffat also offered this regarding what Whovians can expect this year, which ultimately includes revealing the answer to the Doctor's greatest secret that has remained a mystery since the first epidsode: "Doctor who?"
"It’s the 50th year of Doctor Who and look what’s going on! We’re up in the sky and under the sea! We’re running round the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There’s new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and a never before attempted journey to the centre of the TARDIS. And in the finale, the Doctor’s greatest secret will at last be revealed! If this wasn’t already our most exciting year it would be anyway!"
The Doctor sports a new coat, but the fez is timeless.
