TRAILER: 'Fringe' Season Five

Eager fans of FOX's cult sci-fi mindebender Fringe were finally let off the ledge today regarding whether the show would return in the fall for a fifth season.

Kevin Reilly, President of FOX Entertainment announced that a 13-episode fifth and final season has been green lit.

Fringe is a remarkably creative series that has set the bar as one of television’s most imaginative dramas. Bringing it back for a final 13 allows us to provide the climactic conclusion that its passionate and loyal fans deserve,” said Reilly in a released statement.

“The amazing work the producers, writers and the incredibly talented cast and crew have delivered the last four seasons has literally been out of this world. Although the end is bittersweet, it’s going to be a very exciting final chapter,” Reilly said.

Co-creator and executive producer J.J. Abrams weighed in about the opportunity to finish off the show's journey, “We are thrilled and beyond grateful that FOX – and our fans – have made the impossible possible: Fringe will continue into a fifth season that will allow the series to conclude in a wild and thrilling way. All of us at Bad Robot are forever indebted to our viewers and the amazingly supportive FOX network for allowing the adventures of Fringe Division to not only continue, but to resolve in a way that perfectly fits the show.”

“This pickup means the world (both of them) to us, because we love sharing these stories with our enthusiastic fans,” added Fringe showrunners and executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman. “On behalf of the cast and crew, we applaud our fans and FOX for allowing us to imagine the impossibilities together for so long. Season Five is going to be a conclusive thrill ride for all of us.”

'Avengers' & 'Amazing Spider-Man' Toys Assemble In NYC

With the summer blockbuster season fast approaching, The 2012 Time To Play Spring Showcase was held in NYC today and I caught a sneak peek at some of the hot new tie-in toys that are on the way. Among the highlights of what was showcased was the new line of various goodies from the Marvel Studios films The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man.

Lego had a big presence with their line of heroes, villains, and Helicarrier play sets ready to assemble from The Avengers. Some older favorites from Hasbro like the Hulk Smash fists, hero character masks, and mini Captain America Attack Shield will be back on shelves. Those items will be joined by new Spider-Man role play toys that include the iconic mask with glowing spider-sense eyes and Spidey glove web-shooters with authentic movie sound effects activated by wrist movement. There is even a real wall crawling remote controlled Spider-Man figure. Yes, it climbs up, down, and all around a smooth wall!

New 'Dark Knight Rises' Products Hit NYC

With the summer blockbuster movie season fast approaching, The 2012 Time To Play Spring Showcase was held in NYC today and provided a sneak peak at some of the hot new tie-in toys that are on the way. Among the highlights I was front and center to see showcased were the new line of The Dark Knight Rises toys from Mattel and Warner Bros. Consumer Products. In addition to detailed character action figures, on display was a role playing Batman cowl, a Tumbler with the Bane inspired color scheme, a Bat Signal that projects the iconic logo onto your wall, and the Caped Crusader's latest big screen vehicle: The Bat.

A design note regarding The Bat: A pair of propeller blades reside underneath the side rear of the body of the vehicle. This would appear to enable it to hover close to the ground. So from all appearances, The Bat will not be transformed into a 'bat copter' by adding overhead propellers in post production for the film. The under blades seem to coincide with the way The Bat moved in leaked online footage from location shoots in New York City and Pittsburgh featuring the newest badass vehicle in Batman's arsenal. You can check out the video demo below from Time To Play in addition to the pictures I took today on the showroom floor to see all the secrets of The Bat.

TRAILER: 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation'

Check out the third trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which debuted at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Each successive peek at the film paints the second movie in the series in a darker light, and pushes Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis' Roadblock and Joe Colton front and center into action.

In addition, fan favorites Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow appear to rightfully have prominent roles (as the few holdovers from 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and Channing Tatum's Duke has been deployed to a back-up role for the newer characters being showcased.

The film pick up where the first film's cliffhanger left off, with Cobra Commander firmly in charge of his terrorist organization as Cobra agent and master of disguise Zartan assumes the role of the President of the United States. In Retaliation, the Joes are set up as traitors and left for dead after an ambush. It is up to the elite soliders to clear their names and unmask the villain in the White House.

Collider caught up with Dwayne Johnson at CinemaCon to talk up the movie and the action star also gives an update on the shooting status of Fast and the Furious 6. Check out the interview below and hit up Collider for their full report on Paramount's G.I. Joe presentation.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is set to hit theaters on June 28th.

New 'Prometheus' Viral Video Spotlights David

20th Century Fox has released a new viral video to help hype up the highly anticipated Ridley Scott directed Alien-universe set Prometheus.

Following up on the first clever spot featuring Guy Pearce in a faux TED Talk conference set in 2023 as Peter Weyland (a character whose influence is a driving force in the Alien series), this second video focuses on David, the android character played by Michael Fassbender. Androids in space are a staple in the series, Ian Holm played the artificial Ash in Alien, and Lance Henriksen portrayed Bishop in Aliens. It's no surprise that there would be another human companion featured in Prometheus to give their use additional historical background in the context of the series.

Prometheus is set to hit theaters in 3-D on June 8th, and stars Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Noomi Rappace, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson.

'Avengers' Preview: Iron Man Vs. Thor

As the countdown to Marvel's The Avengers May 4th theatrical release is nearing critical mass, check out these action packed clips that showcase the powers of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, notably Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America.

The first clip featuring Thor taking on Iron Man might be considered a bit on the spoiler side, but Marvel saw fit to release it, and it should be to nobody's surprise that assembling a group of superheroes together to act as a cooperative team to is not going to be met without a few bumps in the road at first. And of any two egos bound to clash, it would be those of Tony Stark and Thor. Plus seeing Asgardian might take on Stark Technology is pretty damn nerd cool.

Director Joss Whedon knew he had to pay special attention to the details involving how the physics of super powers might play out in the real world, especially when one's character's strength is measured against another's.

"My biggest concern was that if I didn't pay enough attention to minutiae then the film would become generic in its concepts and visuals. Or that I'd be so concentrated on those things, I'd look around and the film wouldn't be about anything," Whedon told Total Film.

He knew that a punch from a demi god like Thor must represent one level of strength. A punch from a Super Soldier Serum enhanced hero like Captain America is another. And what levels of power the gamma ray infused fury of the Hulk might have is probably anyone's guess. So what happens when you have these characters in the same scene possibly up against each other or fighting side by side?

"If this guy hits someone, he falls down," Whedon said. "If this guy hits someone, he flies backwards. It's very complicated."

The second preview is a brief snippet of Captain America and Thor fending off the alien invasion outside of NYC's Grand Central Station.

That said, enjoy the awesome clips that showcase the big screen eye candy fans can look forward to seeing in a little over two weeks time.

Marvel's The Avengers is to hit the big screen with its all-star superhero cast in 2-D, 3-D, and IMAX 3D on May 4th.
